Menstrual health products: Get to know the types of period products

Once you start your period, it’s not long before you have to figure out what you want to use. Pads? Tampons? Starting your period can be scary but having a guide that explains the different types of period products to keep you leak-free will help. Here are a couple menstrual products that you can explore and maybe even use:

  1. Sanitary pads

We’re all well informed of the classic sanitary pads. The sticky back side that you stick onto your pants and change every few hours to keep yourself clean and sanitary. Pads are suitable for beginners because they provide comfort and visibility. In public or school bathrooms, some may notice that pads are the first ones gone. With middle/high school being the time that many girls experience their periods, pads feel less scary for them because they are not inserting anything in their body, unlike a tampon. Pads also come in different shapes and sizes depending on if your flow is light or heavy. Pads are worth exploring for those curious!

  1. Tampons

Tampons may be on the scary side for those who do not like the idea of something going inside their body, but they are helpful for those who are athletic or want some type of discretion. Tampons provide a time wear of four to eight hours, while preventing leaks. They are also lightweight and allow for people to carry multiple at a time without worrying if it will add weight to their bags. Unlike pads, tampons collect straight from the source and absorb fairly fast. Tampons are unique and allow beginners to expand upon pads!

  1. Menstrual cups

Although menstrual cups are the least known, they are still as effective as other period products. Menstrual cups hold more liquid than do tampons, so they can be worn longer and not need to be changed as frequent. They are also cost-effective because they are reusable and cheaper than tampons and pads over time. They can also increase comfort because they are flexible and hold up when twisted and turned. Menstrual cups are an interesting product, so don’t be afraid to research more about it and see if it is the right fit for you!

No matter which path you settle for while on your period, there will always be something to use. Period products are essential to learn about and should want to be experimented with. After all: we are still learning more about menstrual health and products every day.
